They ranged from cheap $49 Sears closeouts to the $159 Stihl FSE 60 - the top-rated unit by many professional reviewers. All were horrible products. Many were cheaply constructed and lasted a few months after the expiration dates expired. The Sears models were useless - the strings kept clogging up. The Stihl FSE 60 was under-powered and did not cut grass evenly. It did have a two year warranty, but this was totally meaningless when executed after six months. The repair shop blamed the problems on user errors or some other technicalities that required the owner pay for repairs. At $60 per hour for labor and outrageous prices for imported German-made parts, it was cheaper to throw away the unit.. However, I really wanted a powerful electric trimmer and figured I could always replace the cutting head if it failed.I am happy to report that Greenworks has fixed the cutting head problem. As soon as I pulled the trimmer out of the box I disassembled the cutting head. THE ARROW ON THE KNOB IS WRONG. You must turn the knob clockwise to disassemble the cutting head and add string. It says that in the manual but I doubt most people read the manual. The plastic threads mentioned in other reviews have been replaced by a metal insert. The knob that retains the cutting head threads into one side of the insert and the other side connects the cutting head to output shaft of the gearbox. The secret to it's longevity I believe was it's high amp motor. I've tried and burnt out a couple other brands in the last year. Finally I found the Greenworks trimmer. It has even more torque than my old Weedeater. It is beautifully designed, engineered and built. The other reviewers mention one problem with the bump feed string head. There is an error with the arrow indication for unscrewing the retaining nut. It indicates unscrewing the nut in the typical counterclockwise direction. This is wrong! It is a left hand thread, as mentioned in the manual. If turned in a clockwise direction, it comes off very easily, as the threads are course and will not bind.There is a learning curve for using this trimmer.
