It claims to work with "99% of gas trimmers". Which may be true, with a caveat. Some trimmers have the housing for the reel permanently attatched, no way to remove without breaking it. So, if this is the case, you install the Universal Bump stacked onto the original housing. Which works, but, the spin of the line is now several inches further away, and likely well outside of the guard. I suppose this would be okay if you can adjust the guard to compensate. But generally there isn't a good way to adjust the guard like that.

So, if you are considering this unit, see if you can remove the original reel housing. It should be easy to do if you can. And in that case, this Universal Bump seems to work fairly well.

In my case, the trimmer I used to have had the permanent reel housing. I used the Universal Bump with it, but, it was not really good having the line spin outside the guard. Well, that trimmer has died and I bought a new trimmer. And this new one I... Read more

I bought one of these to use with a new non-feed trimmer and while it wasn't a perfect fit, it did assemble and work well for a while. I went through the supplied spool in maybe an hour (our grass hasn't been edged in a few years) and noticed that part way through the second spool, line would not feed.

I opened up the housing and noticed that part of the spool/ratchet system had broken off. Without that piece, the head is unbalanced and doesn't stop feedling line. In other words: useless.

I went inside and picked up the package (which had only been opened a few hours prior) and saw the unit had a "lifetime warranty". Great news, right?

I read the warranty instructions. They say to return the original trimmer head and include a check for 9.95. If you do the math, you quickly learn that the cost of the lifetime warranty exceeds the cost of a new unit from amazon!

I sent the company an email to share my incredulity with them. We'll see... Read more

This replacement head is very poor quality--it is made of a soft plastic that grinds away easily when doing the "bump" action to advance the trim line. Also, the trim line does not easily advance--many times I have to stop the trimmer, turn it upside down and push the bump button manually and pull on the strings with my hands. Neither the "bump" nor the "feed" work consistently. It seems to cause more frustration than it solves.
